I have two memories - one of when I was about 5 years old and going to visit Uncle Dave and the family - being from California, the farm life was very new to me - very exciting. The second was our vacation last year - going back after so many years and old enough to enjoy all the stories that Uncle Dave told - I will remember him as someone who have a great love for his family and liked to make others smile. He will be miss deeply.
As all who have met my Uncle, he was a humble man of few words and many friends. He was my last surviving uncle. It is now our turn to pick up the torch and to work on leaving a legacy as rich as the one he left us.
Tommy, I was saddened to hear about the loss of your dad. Since the loss of mine, I have some better idea of what you are going through. We can have hope, actually a reality, that they are with the Lord and look forward to that eventual reunion with them there. I am in the Netherlands all week so did not find out about your dad's passing until after the funeral. Otherwise I would have attended to lend my support to you and your family during this time.
Uncle Dave and Tommy came out to California for a visit a few years ago. What a time we had. Most of the time was sharing stories in our backyard under the patio. Uncle Dave knew how to tell a good story. I might add, that the story ended with a big smile on all faces that might be listening. I ask uncle Dave if there was a place in Los Angeles that he would especially like to see. His only request was to see the Rose Bowl. ....and the Rose Bowl we saw. Because that visit was so very special, we decided to name the patio area...UNCLE DAVE'S AND TOMMY'S PLACE. May the lives God has given us be full of faithfullness and goodness like that of Uncle Dave High
to be provided at a later date after consultation with deane high tooley
Rose are red, violets are blue, we were sure blessed to have an uncle like you. Not a man of many words, but his smile said it all. We love you.
I'm so sorry it took us this long to response to your e-mail. We were all shocked and sadden about Uncle Dave. One of my fondest memories of Uncle Dave is when we The Tooley Clan from California went to visit Larry in Texas and Uncle Dave and Aunt NevaNell drove down to visit. from Kentucky. It was a hot summer evening and we were taught a game in which you throw a Frisbee across the swimming pool in the hope that it lands in a chair across on the other side of the pool (the most points if it lands and stays in the chair) or if the Frisbee hit the chair, or goes between the legs of the chair. I don't remember another time I heard my dad laugh so hard. Uncle Dave brought out the best in my Dad on that vacation. We all had a great time. Of course his recent visit in the summer of 1999 when he came with Tommy for a few days. We ddn't have to take him places. He just wanted to visit with his sister Deane. Boy you could tell they were sister and brother. I believe it was the frist time Uncle Dave ate an avocado. We have a huge avocado tree and I think we made him guamole with tortilla chips. I think he enjoyed it. Uncle Dave will always be remember. Love his niece Patti
Sorry to hear about your father.
