Jewell B. Colliver, 79, Salem Church Road, Cave City, died Monday,
February 19, 2001, at the T. J. Samson Community Hospital.
A native of Bath County, he was the son of the late John B. Colliver and
Mary L. Anderson Colliver. After
his graduation from the University of Kentucky, he served with the Signal Corps
of the United States Army in the Pacific Theater during WW
II.
In 1946, Mr. Colliver married Christine Barlow of Cave City.
He began his teaching career in the Barren County School System that same
year and taught Vocational Agriculture for 39 years.
Many honors have been bestowed upon Jewell Colliver for his personal and
professional excellence.
Mr. Colliver was a member of Salem Baptist Church, where he served for 17
years as Sunday School Superintendent and presently as Deacon and Chairman of
the Board of Trustees. He was past
director of the Park City State Bank and was a present director of South Central
Bank.
He helped organize and served as chairman of the Joint City-County
Planning Commission of Barren County for 24 years.
He had been a member of the Conservation District Board for 48 years,
during which he served both in the capacity of Vice Chairman and Chairman.
He was a former President of the Kentucky Vocational Agriculture Teachers
Association, a member of the Park City Lions Club for 50 years and a member of
Gideons International.
Survivors include his wife, Christine Barlow Colliver; two sons, John H.
Colliver and his wife, Lois of Louisville, and Donald G. Colliver and his wife,
Rebecca of Nicholasville; four grandchildren, Todd and Sara Colliver of
Louisville, Jeremy and Jason Colliver of Nicholasville; two sisters, Beulah
Jones and her husband, Frank, and Elizabeth Rice and her husband, Ed all of
Owingsville, Ky.; one brother, Burl Colliver of Lynchburg, Ohio; several nieces
and nephews.
Funeral
services will be held 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the Hatcher & Saddler Funeral
Home with burial in the Cave City Cemetery.
Friends may call after 4:00 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
